She came when it was dark: a thousand tiny suns burning in the night sky. She burned in the sky, and she burned when she touched our face. She still burns.
But it is a trifle now. She digs spikes into us: more and more every hour. She digs with purpose. When she doesn't find what she wants, she shreds the ground and sends forth another spike.
She takes a little of the ground each day and sends it to the stars. We are starting to feel the absence.
